We have survived the first three weeks of life as a new family, and I can say, I remember most of it! We even were as brave as to venture out into public, all of us, this past weekend! Saturday night we met up with my Rich, Chet & Malissia for dinner, church on Sunday morning and then even out to breakfast afterwards. Now, granted, we make sure it is not just the travelling circus (as Brandon likes to refer to us as now) because then we would be outnumbered, so we always have to make sure there is at least one other adult present. Eventually, we will do things on our own, just not yet!
The girls are getting bigger and will go back next week for their one month check up (I can't believe it already!) and I am excited to see just how much they have grown. They are so different, both in looks and personalities, it amazes me. Kaitlyn is going to be our princess and high maintenance while Olivia is very laid back and relaxed. Olivia will go for 4-5 hours in between feedings, while Kate has to nurse every 2-2 1/2 hours tops. That makes night time much more difficult. I have them on the same schedule, but Kate is up in between to eat while Olivia is still sleeping. And, if I try to wake Olivia in between when Kate gets up, most of the time she is too tired and just uninterested.
It definitely keeps me busier than just one infant did, but it is not as completely overwhelming as I expected (though, I am sure I will regret saying that!). There are days when I feel like all I do is laundry, nurse and change diapers, though.
Jack is adjusting pretty well. He absolutely adores the girls and loves to shower them with hugs and kisses and remind them that he is their big brother and that he loves them. Then, he will turn around and yell at Brandon or I because he can't have one of us because we are changing a diaper or feeding a baby or keeping one from crying, etc. He just needs time to learn to share mommy and daddy, which is something he has never had to do in the 2 1/2 years he has been alive, so it will take time but he's doing great. He has even managed to start potty training in the midst of it all! It is something we tried to do before the girls were born and then kind of gave up on it as to not to bring on too much change all at once for him, but he came home from daycare the week the girls were born using the potty! We still have accidents, but we are making progress every day.
Life is good and we are blessed. Busy, very, very busy, but blessed!
