19 weeks, 3 days

Well, it has been a very emotional couple of weeks. We anxiously awaited our appointment to find out what the twins are and we did...2 girls... Olivia and Kate. They are both measuring perfectly and everything seems to be right on schedule. Kate is much more active than Olivia and I feel her everyday, multiple times a day. She kicks hard enough to feel her on the outside, but we haven't managed to catch the timing just right for Brandon to feel her yet.

It was very hard to celebrate, though. As I sat in the doctor's office after the ultrasound, my youngest sister was given the option for a C-Section at 24 weeks, 5 days or to wait and risk losing her baby. She and Eric made the obvious choice, and at 2:00pm on Thursday March 12, 2009 Emma Jane was born at Mease Countryside Hospital in Florida. She was 10 1/2 inches long and weighed in at 15 ounces. She is one of the smallest they have seen at that hospital and has a long road ahead of her.

I was able to catch a flight out first thing Friday morning to be with them and meet Emma for the first time. Her size is indescribable, but she has an unbelievable amount of fight in her. She must get that from her mom! She was transferred to All Children's in St. Petersburg, FL today and continues her fight. She will remail hospitalized for at least the next 4 months and maintains a 50% chance of survival.
