For tho
se of you who follow this blog and don't have a clue as to what I am talking about when I refer to "The Magic Elf", let me give you a little background:
When my sisters and I were children, it was brought to our attention by the gracious children we went to school with that since we did not have a fireplace, Santa would be unable to come to our house regardless of how good we were. Very sadly, we went home to explain the situation to our mother. My mother brought to our attention the fact that for such children that did not have a fireplace or chimney for him to climb down, he had delivered "a magic elf" to their parents. This elf was
no ordinary elf. He had a very special job to do for Santa. The day the Christmas tree was decorated, he was the last ornament to adorn the tree and was to be put at the very tippity top. If, and only if, all of the children in the house had behaved each day, he would move down a branch. He was to climb branch by branch to the bottom of the tree by Christmas Eve. If he made it to the bottom branch Christmas Eve, he would then jump off the tree and grow to "full elf size" and let Santa in the house to fill our stockings and lay out our presents. He would then shrink back to his ornament size and jump back inside the tree hiding from sight. Christmas morning each of us were to search the tree for the elf and the one to find him got to open the first present. So, of course, when Jack was born, we too received our magic elf to adorn our tree, and this was the first year Jack watched for him to move each and every day. And, believe it or not, he did in fact make it to the bottom of the tree. My
mother created a book to go along with each of our elves and had someday hoped to publish and market the idea for other parents, however, this year you could find a similar thing already in stores called "the elf on the shelf". Oh well, we still have ours.
This year was also the first year we baked cookies and put them out for Santa. Oh, what a good time we had! I can also promise you Santa had no problem staying up to deliver the rest of the presents that night after leaving our house due to the huge sugar rush he experienced! (please see pictures for reference).
